Maintenance and Cleaning Using SMG Machines

DECOMPRESSION (Aeration)

Attachment: Aeration unit with metal tines (spikes). Process: The entire area is aerated using a specialized attachment that penetrates the surface. This achieves a complete loosening of compacted infill material and ensures its even redistribution. Benefit: Significantly improves turf elasticity, resulting in superior shock absorption and consistent ball bounce.
Frequency: 2 x 1 hour. Recommended: At least twice a year. Mandatory: Once a year.

DEEP CLEANING (Suction & Filtration)

Attachment: Cleaning unit with rotary brushes and suction. Process: The infill material (rubber granules) is processed across the entire pitch. A combination of rotating brushes and suction removes small debris such as stones, leaves, and pine needles. Technical Detail: Debris is filtered through internal sieves (up to a depth of 10 mm). Cleaned granules are returned to the pitch, while fine dust is captured in a hopper behind the driver. The system is continuously cleaned and emptied during operation.
Frequency: 2 x 1.5–2.5 hours. Recommended: At least twice a year. Mandatory: Once a year.

BRUSHING & GROOMING

Attachment: Cross-brush / Static drag brush. Process: Infill material is evenly worked into the surface and leveled across the entire area using a fixed transverse brush. Benefit: Ensures optimal upright positioning of the synthetic fibers, enhancing player comfort, safety, and ball control (uniform roll and bounce).
Frequency: 2 x 45 minutes. Recommended: At least twice a year. Mandatory: Once a year.

Extended and supplementary maintenance of the playground.

ROTARY BRUSHING

Usage: Primarily used in autumn to remove heavy debris before primary maintenance or to redistribute large volumes of infill. Feature: Precision height adjustment allows for sensitive control of material handling and leveling to the required depth.
Frequency: 2 hours.

DROP SPREADER (Infill Top-up)

Usage: An adjustable attachment used for the precise and uniform application of sand or rubber granules. Note: After application, the surface must be thoroughly brushed with a cross-brush to integrate the material into the turf.

SNOW REMOVAL

Context: Pitches in higher altitudes often face operational limits due to heavy snowfall. Equipment: A front-mounted snow blade with a rubber edge combined with a rear snow blower is highly recommended. The tractor should be equipped with specialized turf tires to prevent surface damage. Constraint: Aeration and brushing are possible after snow removal; however, suction cleaning is impossible if the infill is wet.
