The football pitch has become a catalyst for regeneration of the community. Such is the success of the new pitch that the European Synthetic Turf Organisation (ESTO) has awarded the pitch its prestigious Community Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony held in Cologne, Germany.
SK Újezd was formed in 1937 and is the only football club in the local area. Having only one grass pitch and with poor drainage, the pitch was often unplayable, restricting usage to just two adult teams. Fixtures were frequently postponed leading to rescheduling problems. In addition, the local council was concerned that there was little to keep youngsters in the village and that people were moving away.
Community Involvement
In 2008 the community came together and decided that a new artifical turf pitch might help to grow the number of football teams in the village and provide more activities for children. With funding support from the local council and direct help from local people, the club managed to raise enough money to install a new artifical turf pitch, install floodlights and build a new clubhouse. The community were also helped by Michal Bílek, the Czech National football team coach who supported the development.
Ten-fold Expansion in Capacity
Envos installed the artificial football pitch in 2009. Having previously had the capacity for just two teams, the new pitch now offers the opportunity for twenty two teams to play regularly, a ten-fold increase in capacity. The club has expanded to operate youth and girls teams across the age range. Showing that the pitch is for the entire community, the club has developed a number of 'masters' football teams for the over 40's, over 50's and over 60's. The club also operates children's soccer camps daily in July and August each year.
New Revenue Streams
With the revenue generated from a new restaurant on site, along with a steady income from pitch rental, it has allowed the club to invest in new teams and build the capacity of the club. This is something that simply could not have happened with a traditional grass pitch.
Great Maintenance – Great Pitch
The pitch is able to withstand prolonged usage due to both the high quality construction and the specially developed maintenance programme carried out by Envos to ensure that even with heavy usage the pitch remains in a first class condition. This maintenance programme has been a critical contribution to the success of the pitch.
Catalyst for Regeneration
Tomas Vydra, Sales Manager GreenFields Eastern Europe said, "This community pitch show how artificial turf can deliver more than just better usage and a steady income stream. It has helped bring the community together. The pitch and clubhouse have now become the hub of the community. Previously youngsters were leaving the village but now they have something to stay for. The new pitch has become a real catalyst for the regeneration of the village and something of great value to the community as a whole."

As the very first company within the Czech Republic, we have started the production of illuminative ramps for the application on football fields with natural turf. Photos can be found here.
|
The absolutely first produced illuminative ramp was delivered to the Generali Arena stadium of Sparta Prague.
While keeping the identical technological and performance parameters as the similar equipment from abroad, we have managed to keep the costs lower by a third.
Based on the research and in accordance with the latest developments for improving the growing conditions a maintaining the performance of natural turfs all over Europe, it is important to deliver enough light to the natural turf, which will enable better photosynthesis. This process is important be it in United Kingdom or Russia. /please see pictures from Arsenal and Sachtar Doneck/
Problems caused by the lack of light is being a constant issue with all the shaded parts of stadiums across Europe not only in winter months, but throughout the complete season.
Now you can give the necessary light to your turf, as it needs the illumination very much in order to grow better and keep its characteristics for a longer time.
The bigger the part of your pitch is covered by these illuminative ramps the better for your natural turf. Please, look at the usage of such illuminative ramps across Europe in various countries and stadiums. Delivery time is approx. 2-3 month, depending on the quantity.

AC Sparta Prague in Generali Arena – observe with us the preparation of the natural turf before the match of Sparta versus FC Liverpool. Photos can be found here.

Already during the first half of January 2011 the preparation works on the main stadium pitch at AC Sparta Prague are in full speed. Due to the dates of matches in the European league the last match against CSKA Moscow was held quite late in December and also because of large quantities of snow fall and extremely low temperatures during the course of November-December. The regeneration period of the grass has been cut to the shortest possible minimum.
Our company which is the contractual partner of AC Sparta Prague is on a wide scale involved with the maintenance and preparations of the main stadium pitch during the winter break. We are focusing all our efforts to prepare the grass pitch for the up-coming match against FC Liverpool in the European league.
As of Friday 7.1.2011 the heating system of the pitch is in full operation mode. The same goes for the automatic irrigation system. The natural turf was treated on the complete surface with light sowing of special grass species able to germinate at low temperatures.
In the course of the coming next 3 weeks we have planned preventive chemical treatment of the natural turf including the addition of granulated iron fertilizers in order to refresh the color of the grass.
As a very special treatment we have recently purchased from a Norwegian company MLR and now lend to the Sparta stadium and started operating this supplementary lightning ramp with floodlights, immediately. This mobile lightning ramp has 12 floodlights adding up to a total output of 7,2kW. This system is helpful in turf regeneration and growth during the harsh winter conditions.

Removal of the snow from the pitch was done with the machinery and equipment Sport Champ belonging to Envos. The cleaning works were done by the Envos maintenance team and works started 24hours prior to the match. During this time frame the snow covering the pitch was removed from the playing area 22x, while the pitch heating was running at full capacity, but the quantity of snow drifting and falling on the pitch was enormous. Nevertheless the job was completed on time and the game successfully took place.

Based on data evaluation of the current state and long-term monitoring of the function ability of the playing surface at the AC Sparta Prague stadium a decision was taken by the management of the football club to execute a complete change of the natural turf and improve the composition of the vegetational construction layers which due to their higher thickness has negatively influenced the required parameters for water permeability of the above mentioned construction.
Execution of this highly time demanding reconstruction, when the maximum given time frame was 28 days, has been delegated to our company.
The complete project was dividend to several phases:
• Cutting-off the existing turf and a part of the vegetational layer into the depth of 11cm
• Disposal and storage of this cubic yardage of soil
• Re-shaping of the basic plain with a laser controlled machinery
• Delivery and subsequent thorough embedding of the 4cm deep layer of quartz sand into the vegetational layer with a depth cutter
• Continuous leveling and compacting of the newly created substrate
• In-depth release and bonding of all construction layers with a Verti-drain machine
• Replacement and adjustment of all 35 sprinklers from the automatic irrigation system
• Delivery and installation of a new 2,7cm thick pre-grown grass sods of domestic origin
Complete reconstruction was successfully finished and the playing surface was handed over to the club ahead of the requested date. The high duality of the grass, all construction layers and of all works was proven during the autumn part of the league matches in the 2010-2011 seasons
